Peter Problems (Family Guy)-Animated Critic #4

Show-Family Guy
Episode Title-Peter Problems
Air Date-January 5th 2014
Season 12
Episode 219

*Warning*
Some of the content in this blog post may not be suitable for a younger audience. Viewer discretion is advised.

So my first review of an adult cartoon. I feel so mature.
Either way I'm not going to beat around the bush here. I HATE Family Guy. It's the most obnoxious, annoying, irritating, stupid show on Television right now. In fact it's the first show I'm talking about on this blog that I outright hate. It's kinda like Spongebob in the sense that it started out good but went through Seasonal Rot as it went along. In fact this show was affected by Seasonal Rot way....way worse than Spongebob. At least I can still say I like Spongebob overall but I can't say the same for Family Guy. I hate it. Personally I think the Seasonal Rot began with the episode Airport '07 but I'll talk about that one later. For now we are gonna talk about Peter Problems which is a perfect showcase of most of my problems with the show. If you like Family Guy there is nothing wrong wuth that. I just hate it and now I will explain why with the episode Peter Problems.

The episode starts with annoying filler of Peter talking to a deaf co-worker at well....work. Then Peter's boss comes in and we get more pointless filler of Peter just making random noises at her. If it was funny I wouldn't mind but it's not. It's the worse type of joke. The joke that goes on way to long and comes off as obnoxious instead of funny.

By the way I just wanna point out how awesome this guy's name is.
Cherry Chevapravatdumrong.
I know Mr. Enter already said this but that is one EPIC name.
Cool name aside though Peter's boss (Who I forget the name of) tells Peter he is being promoted to Forklift Operator and that he will get a raise. We then get a cut-away gag.
Now lets talk aboit these cut-aways. In recent years it seems that these gags have just been used to fill in time and they suffer the same problem as a lot of family guy jokes. They are unfunny and obnoxious. They are also extremely overused. This particular cut-away gag involves an elephant on a bike falling into water. It got a chuckle out of me the first time I saw it I will admit but thats because of how stupid it is.

So we get a scene of Peter trying the forklift for the first time. Since he's a complete idiot he falls off of it but he gradually gets better. And by gradually I mean he can do stunts perfectly on it on only his second attempt.
Either way he goes to the bar where he meets his friends Joe and Quagmire to tell them about the forklift. However Quagmire thinks Peter is trying tell him about his PodCast(It makes more sense if you watch the episode)
We then get a cut-away gag where Peter is listing a bunch of hats for his podcast. That's it. Just Peter naming types of hats. Ha Ha Ha Ha. Funny Right. (Sarcasm.) It wasn't funny at all. It went on for to long and became very....very annoying. God I'm only a few minutes in and I'm already steaming with rage. And unlike the last three episodes I reviewed this is 22 minutes instead of 11 so that's twice the amount of crap I have to deal with. Ugh.....

Any way Quagmire and Joe see the forklift and what do they decide to do with it.

Yep. They carry around Joe (the handicaped one) on the forklift to make it look like he's walking. It's stupid. Joe's pants fall off......so that happened.
I don't care. Ugh....Next

Next we get a stupid cut-away gag that's a reference to Lion King. I looked everywhere in this scene and I am certain that there is no comedy here.

We then get the worst part of this entire episode (tied with the ending). It's also the scene that put this episode into infamy. This scene is vulgar, disgusting, awful. It ticks me off that someone actually wrote this as a joke. In fact no it doesn't just tick me off. It disgust me. The scene involves a beached whale.
The people wanna try to get it back in the water so Peter comes in with his forklift and tires to put the whale back in the sea. Unfourtunetly he accidently stabs the whale.
The whale makes a very real sound of pain that is not enjoyable to listen to. Peter then lifts the whale off the ground while the lift is still stabbed inside of it and carries it over the sea. Since the lift is stuck inside the whale the whale won't come of so Peter tries to shake it off. The whale eventually dies and his body begins to fall apart. By the end it looks like this.

Disgusting. This scene last for a really long time. To long and it focuses on the whale falling apart the entire time. It just keeps going. On and on. This...this is not funny. Heck it's not even a joke. This is disgusting. It's sick to think that someone thought this could be used as comedy. You know what whoever thought that needs to be fired immedietly and never have a job on TV ever again (both live action and animation included).
I'm not joking. They even have the balls to end this scene with a pun. You know the older episodes of Family Guy while they can be vulgar would never stoop down to these levels of disgustingness. It's not funny, it's not entertaining. Whoever wrote that scene and whoever thought it was a good idea FAILED. They failed hard.

After that........thing, we cut to Peter at work. For those who don't know Peter works at a brewery. He sees a big vat of beer and bets someone he can drink it all. He uses the forklift to lift up the vat and pour the alcohol into his mouth. He passes out and causes the forklift to move forward causing it to crash through a wall into a conference room.

Peter is then quickly fired. Good. He should be. His stupidity is just putting people in harms way. I mean he should've thought this through. Whatever, we need a plot somehow.

A few weeks later at the griffin household Peter still doesn't have a job. He's to incompatent to even read a news paper.
The family now has a limited amount of cash. So much that they have to eat cheap breakfast and can't afford school pictures so the childrean are told to stand behind someone as they're getring their picture taken.
As far as I know that's not how it works. You only have to pay if you want to own the photos. However everyone gets their picture taken. No matter what (unless you were absent)
At least thats how they did it in every single school I've ever been to. But some schools may do it like this. I don't know,
And yes I do know that it was a joke. But it wasn't funny or entertaining.

Lois says she should get a job as Peter hasn't had a job lead yet. We then get a scene that actually made me laugh. I wont spoil the joke but lets just say it's kinda terrible but funny still.
It's this scene for those of you who have seen the episode.
So far thats 2 jokes I've praised. Not good. You can make up for not being funny by atleast being entertaining but......yeah not this episode. Not entertaining in the least.
So yeah Lois is getting a job at her local grocery store. We then get a cut-away with Peter in a record shop asking the owner about someone called Debussy.

And he keeps saying it over and over. Debussy Debussy Debussy.
The joke js it sounds like De Pussy but it's not funny and gets obnoxious fast.

Also Peter acts like a Sexist Douche after Lois tells him she's getting a job. Cause the idea of a women having a job that's not prostitution, being a lawyer or being a nurse is very hard to comprehend. Here's a tip. Sexism is not funny. I'm sorry I keep repeating myself but thats because the episode keeps repeating the same problem. God, I'm not even half-way through this episode yet. Already I feel like I'm about to explode.
So we cut to Lois' job interview. It actually also got a laugh out of me. I gotta give credit where credit is due.

So Lois got the job. Meaning Peter has to stay and watch the kids. Not a good idea. If i recall in the episode The Juice Is Loose (The O.J Simpson one) In one of the cut-aways it is revealed that Peter and Lois had another kid....just that Peter killed it. In that same episode he is watching over Stewie and invites his friends over. While they act like Stereotypical Teenage Girls he pays no attention to Stewie. Point is not a good idea leaving Peter alone with the Kids. Couldn't Meg do it. I mean she's a legal adult by this episode I'm pretty sure. Say what you want about Meg she is much more qualified than Peter.

We get a few jokes about Peter getting. use to being a Stay at Home Father. Not much worth mentioning except for one joke.
I TOLD YOU. I knew leaving Peter in charge would kill someone. And by someone I mean all 3 of his kids.
Question how do you confuse food for your kids. Your not that stupid. By the way being stupid is not an excuse. The stupidity has to be enjoyable to watch and....yeah he just killed his 3 kids with his stupidity how enjoyable do you think it was to watch that. And Peter just blows it off like it's no big deal. Yep killing someone, let alone killing your childrean is no big deal. Ha Ha funny Right................................................NO, NO,NO,NO,NO,NO,NO,NO,NO,NO

To be fair the kids do show up later in the episode. So this scene was pointless and non-canon i guess. Still a dumb joke either way.

Lois returns home after a long day at work and Peter begins acting like a stereotypical house wife. Tip-Taking one Gender Stereotype and putting it on the other gender is not funny. It's still a stereotype and while stereotypes can be funny just useing one is not. No matter which gender it's on.
We finally get to the main plot. God, it's about time. There was so much pointless filler.
Lois wants to have...uh...uhm...oh come on Evan you can say it. Just man up and say it....uh...Sex.
Lois wants to have...sex with peter. A problem occurs though(see what i did there) as it seems Peter can't get an erection.
Oh no. This is big (sarcasm)
The family makes fun of him fir it the next day and Chris even says he's a disgrace as a man and a father because of it. I would be ticked off but Peter is a disgrace as a man and a father. Not because of the whole erectile dysfunction thing but because of the other stuff we've seen and will see when I do more Family Guy episodes.
Peter is taken to the doctors and we get a stupid gag where the doctor dresses like a girl to try and turn Peter on. Worst.....doctor......ever.
Oh yeah. It's not funny.
Lois ask for viagra but apparently the doctor(can't spell his name) has been given them out as Anti-Depressiants (refer to above comment)

Even after the medicine Peter apparently still can't get an erection. That's what he tells his friends at the bar anyway. Quamire and Joe decide to see if they can help Peter.
What's their first idea. Have a Boston stereotype yell at Peter's penis (*tiny giggle*) until he has an erection.
You already know my thoughts on stereotypes. This is just......dumb. Straight up dumb.
Needless to say it doesn't work.
Next idea is to hook Peter's penis to wires when he has....sex with Lois next and have Quagmire as a puppet master controlling it.
?????????????????????????????
What?
See for yourself.
So we get a scene of Quagmire being the puppet master of Peter's penis. It wasn't funny to begin with but it gets less funny and more annoying as it drags out. END YOUR GOD DANG JOKES FOR CRYING OUT LOUD.

It doesn't work again so the boys cone up with a new plan. Peter didn't have this problem before he got fired so they decide they need to get his job back.
They go there and begin to talk to Peter's boss(Angela, i think. If i'm wrong i apologize)
Either way they don't even need to talk as Peter has a coupon. What is it for. Well apparently Angela gave it to him as a gift for a holiday. I don't care what the holiday is but either way the coupon allows him to get his job back. No joke.

There are so many things wrong with this.
1.This was never mentioned before. The writers got lazy and so they pulled this plot device out of their buttocks.
2. Why didn't you use it earlier. I mean you could've used it when your family was poor and could barely make a proper breakfast. So why didn't you use it before. All i can assume is that you were lazy. You rather slack about than do work to support your family. The old Peter Griffin would put his family first and try his hardest to get his job back. Peter what happened. Seriously what. You've turned into human scum. An animated piece of crap. How. How did this happen. For those of you who think I'm overanalyzing this I'm just saying what the episode is telling me. It's telling me that Peter Griffin is a douche who give no craps about his family. Sure he's getting his job back now but thats not because he wanted to support his family. It was so he would get erections again.
3. If this is a joke it's mot funny nor entertaining.
4. This is a lazily thrown together plot device.

Screw this ending. Screw it. Any likeability this episode had left was killed by the ending.

So Peter goes to the store to tell Lois he got his job back and can get erections. They then proceed to have....sex in the store on top of the pita bread.
My thoughts exactly man.
What can I say. This is the worst episode I've covered thus far. Its dumb, unfunny, unentertaining, obnoxious, and stupid.
Peter looks like a jerk at the end and speaking of the ending it suck. It's one of the worst endings I've ever seen. It's also a pretty bland episode as well. Lets not forget the whale scene. It perfectly covers 99% of my problems with the show. Guess that's why it's called Peter Problems.

Best Part-The 3 jokes that made me laugh. Yeah only 3 out of an entire episode filled with "jokes"
Worst Part-The Ending and The Whale Scene.
Score-3/10

I have so many other bad episodes I want to review from this show. Here's a list of the one's I wanna tear apart the most.
Not All Dogs Go To Heaven
Family Gay
Chick Cancer
Tales of The Third Grade Nothing
Airport '07 and much much more.

Next time though we'll be looking at a good show. A Magical show if you well.

So Many Birthdays (Steven Universe)-Animated Critic #3

Show-Steven Universe
Episode Title-So Many Birthdays
Air Date-March 3rd 2014
Season 1
Episode 13

Welcome back to the Animated Critic. Lets talk about Steven Universe. This show is AMAZING. I love it. In fact I love it so much that I'm even willing to say that it's the best cartoon currently airing on television. There is nothing like Steven Universe. It seems that this decade that cartoons are mainly focusing on humor instead of serious stories. Which isn't a problem, it's just something I noticed. I mean sure we have Adventure Time and Gravity Falls and Korra ,but for the most part most cartoons of this decade are focused on humor. Shows like Gumball, Uncle Grandpa, Teen Titans Go. Its weird in the 80s, 90s and 2000s there where a variety of cartoons focused on telling stories. As I said its no problem, just something I noticed. Steven Universe though has a nice balance between comedy and serious moments. It also has an overarching story something a lot of cartoons don't do. This episode however does stand on it's own. It's called So Many Birthdays and it's a beautiful episode. Heart-Wrenching as well. What are we waiting for lets get into this episode and see whats so great about it.

The episode starts of with Steven and The Crystal Gems (Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl). They're going through Amethyst's room as it is extremely dirty. Its more like a dump than an actual room. They even find a burrito from a place that closed down 5 years ago. Gross. Steven also finds a picture of his mother with the crystal gems.

That has to be the most perfectly timed photo EVER. I also love how Garnet is just casually punching a shark.

Any way I should probably explain the story of Steven Universe for those who haven't seen it. The show is about a boy named Steven. His mother was part of an alien race known as the Crystal Gems. His mother unfortunetly died. Steven is part human part gem. He in fact has his mother's gem and so Garnet Pearl and Amethyst help him learn how to use his gem powers while protecting the human race.

So there's a basic plot summary of the show. Any way he sees his mother in the photo and ask why everybody looks old-timey. The gems explain they are old-timey and Steven comes to the conclusion that they must be a Bajillion years old. He then ask how hard it is to fit all those candles on the birthday cake.
The gems explain that they don't celebrate birthdays as they don't age and their bodies are just an illusion. We also get some more information about crystal gems, like the fact they can die but not from ageing. This is a pretty early episode of Steven Universe. Only episode 13 so world-building is definetly a good thing. I'm always up for world-buding. Makes the world seem more real despite being fictional. Anyway, the fact that the gems don't celebrate birthdays astonish's Steven and he decides to throw them all a birthday party. First up is Amethyst's party.

She even gets to where Steven's special birthday suit. (As seen above) Any way the Crystal Gems begin to think that they're to mature for this celebration. They explain this to Steven in a way that doesn't make them sound like complete jerks. They actually do say that they appreciate all the effort Steven put into the parties. They just thiink they're to mature to enjoy the party.
By the way I just wanna point out that all of these birthday party scenes are extremely fun to watch.
Next is Pearl's Party.
By the way if I see one Pearl is Salty joke in the comments I will fight you in an alleyway and brutally.............
*Technical Difficulties*
*Fake Cough* We apologize for that sudden, unplanned interuption. And by We I mean just me. I was perhaps a bit to harsh. Still point stands.
Pearl's party is next.
Steven even dresses up like a clown for this party.  Which the Crystal Gems don't understand. He begins telling jokes but the crystal gems don't understand the concept of a joke. It's a really funny scene. Steven then pulls out a pie and tries to fall so the pie will cover his face. Pearl stops him before he falls (cause as i said before she doesn't understand a joke) but Steven slams the pie in his face anyway. The gems are confused and slightly horrified. Pearl says shes partyed out. Your losing them Steven. Losing them

We then get to Garnet's party.

It even has tiny little cars.

Steven wants to use them for a game called Kazoo racers. Garnet says she's to big for the cars and that they're made for young kids. This makes Steven feel childish and he wonders off to reconsider birthdays. He begins to contemplate if he's to old for the stuff he currently enjoys. This episode deals with the interesring concept of ageing and the struggle of leaveing things behind. Which I like. Doesn't take up a whole lot of the episode but I like that they tackle these issues and I like how they execute this. Anyway as Steven begins to feel older his age changes due to his gem.

We actually get some pretty funny scenes out of this. Like Steven gets a shirt that says professional beach hunk. Its hilarious.

But the episode soon takes a serious turn as Steven goes to the doughnut shop. The two people who work there, Lars and some other girl I can't remember the name of(I think it's Sally but i'm not 100% sure) are friends of Steven. They don't reconize him since he's older, but Steven thinks they're messing with him. He then gives a speech about growing up saying if you don't grow up everybody else well without you. Which is true. It's something they should totally teach to kids. You gotta grow up one day. However this episode also teaches that even as a grown up you can still enjoy childish things. You can still have a childish side. You just gotta grow up and learn to be mature and take responsibility. It's a good moral.

Steven finally sees his refletion and how old he's gotten. J
He gets chased out(I would tell you why but it would ruin a really funny moment) and gets even older. To the point where he can barely stand. Luckily lion (who is Steven's pet pink lion) finds him and carries him over to the crystal gems who are cleaning up from the parties. They even admit they actually had a bit of fun going back to what I said earlier about having a childish side. Garnet even kept the birthday suit on.

Lion brings in Steven and the crystal gems are horrified.  We learn that since Steven is part human he can still die of ageing unlike the other gems.

They wrap Steven in his birthday suit in the hopes it'll help. It didn't. They then try to connect him with his inner child. They ride around in a tiny car that Amethyst morphed into, they have a pinata that Amethyst also morphed into. They also have the pie and pearl dressed like a clown. Its probably the saddest part and I'm not going to lie guys....this part almost made me shed a tear. So many feels.
You can just feel the emotion coming from this scene. We know, as an audience, Stevens gonna live but the gems don't. Seeing how much they care for Steven and seeing them doing all of this for him it's......it's.....just really depressing. It is such an emotional scene. I don't think I've ever come so close to crying over a Cartoon. That's something that this show does really well. Heart-Wrenching scenes like this one. I love it.
Garnet tries shaking Steven in a desperate attempt to save him and this causes a fight between the gems. Steven tries to intervene the fight and he gets younger. Apparently his gem is fluxtuateing his age based on how he feels. He just has to feel like himself again. As Pearl puts it "Sweet and considerate and only occasionally obnoxious" By the way Steven is probably the best representation of a child in cartoons because of all those things. Pearl then says if he wasn't all those things he wouldn't have thrown them all those parties. Steven turns back to his regular self and we get a Sweet, happy, heart-warming ending.

And also slightly funny.
This episode is great. It's funny, heart-warming, tear-jerking, beautiful, funny, well written and just overall fun to watch. It also has a great lesson about growing up. You will have to leave stuff behind it's just a part of life, but you can still enjoy childish things.

Best Part-That emotional ending.
Worst Part-During the Kazoo Racers scene Amethyst is kinda a jerk. Though she was just probably playing. It's minor and won't affect the score which is why I didn't mention it earlier but I would be lying if i said it didn't even slightly irk me.

Score-9/10

So there you have it Steven Universe. Chances are that I'll talk about this show again some other day but for now I have other things I want to review.
Since I did 2 positive reviews in a row I'm probably gonna have to review a piece of animated crap next.
Well if that's the case lets do a Family Guy episode next.

Artist Unknown (Spongebob)-Animated Critic #2

Show-Spongebob Squarepants
Episode-Artist Unknown
Air date-September 21st 2001
Season 2
Episode 38b

Yep, another Spongebob episode. This is a positive review though so don't worry. Season 2 is probably my favorite season of the show and this episode is a leading example of why. Its funny, entertaining, and is pretty much Good Neighbors done right. And thats the main reason I wanted to discuss this episode. It shows how to do a Squidward Torture episode right. Another episode I recommend that does this is Culture Shock. Heck there's even a good example of one done right in season 4. The episode Lost Matress. But this review is about the season 2 episode Artist Unknown. So lets begin.

The episode begins with Squidward in an art class, that he's apparently teaching. He begins to act arrogant saying one day he'll be remembered as the greatest artist alive or something like that. Arrogance. A personality trait about Squidward that has really been forgotting about by the writers in recent years. Arrogance is a trait people tend to hate. Which is why it feels so satisfying and funny whenever Squidward gets tortured or annoyed in the earlier seasons. Arrogance is key to a successful Squidward Squidwars Torture Porn. Which the modern writers have seemed to forget. Instead they think the can hurt him just for being squidward and take it to annoying and uncomfortable levels. You can't just torture him just because you felt like it. You need to give him a reason to be hurt, like make him act arrogant or jerky, then give him what he deserves. That way its funny and enjoyable still. Now as i said previously most forms of comedy involve some form of pain on someones part. They don't always have to deserve it but dont take it to far. For example if squidward wasn't acting so arrogant this episode would have gone to far. So the more you make you character deserve it the higher the limit of what you can do to him and keep things funny is also raised. At least thats how I see it. We'll talk more about this later.
Any way in the middle of Squidwards speech a out how he's gonna become the world most renowned artist a janitor comes in and gives a really funny line(that i will not spoil). The janitor actually has a lot of funny lines. In fact all of his lines are pretty funny. Either way squidward opens the door for his new art class.

To bad for Squidward as none of those fish are looking for an art class. They're looking for cooking. The only person interested in art class is guess who......Spongebob.
Now lets talk about Spongebob. He annoys squidward quite a bit, but as i said its funny as squidward deserves it and he never does it to be malicious or anything. I mean in Good Neighbors Spongebob didn't do any of his acts of annoyance to be malicious but Spongebob and Patrick were also very annoying to watch as an audience. In this episode Spongebob is actually in character and is not annoying to watch. Anyway Spongebob is honored to have Squidward as a teacher. Squidward begins teaching class under the assumption that spongebob has no art talent but actually he does. He starts of with a circle. His circle is all squigly and not perfectly round at all. Spongebobs on the other hand is perfect on his first try. He did it by drawing a really good human head and eraseing all the details. Its a good joke that i did an awful job at explaining. Squidwards reaction is also pretty amazing. He then goes on to criticize spongebobs work even though it was good as squidward is just a negative nancy about anything spongebob does. Spongebob does some more art in very creative ways(that I tried to do as a kid) but Squidward continues to criticize him. Saying what Spongebob is doing is not art. Squidward the tries to teach spongebob how to make marble statues. When Squidward demonstrates the marble turns into a bunch of rubble.
Spongebobs attempt however ends with a beautiful statue. Squidward even admits its beahtiful but quickly starts criticizing it (as i said before he is extremely negative about things spongebob does).
I should also talk about Squidward. None of his actions make him unlikable.
He still deserves the punishment he gets but he still remains likability despite being arrogant. But still its still funny to see him punished. It's......Complicated
He say's Spongebobs statue is awful and is not art and then he sticks a clay version of his nose on the statue. He makes Spongebob feel like a useless artist and he goes to cry in a dump. Yay this moment makes me rethink how likable squidward is in this episode but he does cheer spongebob up(even if it was for his own good). Plus he loses in the end and gets what he deserves so...yay i'm conflicted on this scene. Makeing spongebob cry was kinda jerkish. He does show a brief face of concern but then quickly goes to not giving a crap.

Either way, an art collecter comes into Squidward's class.
Let me tell you, this guy is funny and he has some really good lines making fun of Squidwards art. Its hilarious. He's hilarious. Wow this episode has 2 really funny characters that will never be seen again. Man, that sucks. The time I spent with them was so short lived. What were their life stories, where did they come from. Questions we'll never have answers to.

Oh well.

Anyway, all of squidwards art has been mocked by the art collector. He then sees Spongebobs statue and says its a masterpiece. Apparently the only flaw is the nose Squidward added. :P

The art collector wants to put it in his museum and say the person who made it will get Fame, Fortune, and Anything their heart desired. So of course Squidward takes credit. On the way out the door however the head breaks off the statue.

Poor Statue...Man, dude, thing.

Squidward tells the art collector that by tomorrow he'll have another one ready, but of course he needs spongebob as he didn't actually make the statue.

So he goes to the dump to find Spongebob and puts him back in his class in the hope that he'll create another MASTERPIECE.
That doesn't happen as Spongebob starts doing what Squidward taught him. He even does evergthing by a book about art. He thus loses creativity and starts makeing bad art. Remember the circles I mentioned, Spongebob's are now like Squidward, not round and squigly, as Squidward is his inspiration. If this episode was done wrong like Good Neighbors this scene would be a slap in the face, but since this episode was done right it's actually pretty funny. Its funny how the fact that Squidward was being so harsh on Spongebob's art is now biting him in the butt. He gets what he deserves, the punishment is not taken to far and its fun and enjoyable to watch.
We then get to the scene where Squidward tries to make Spongebob create another awesome marble statue like he did earlier.
We also get one of the most famous Spongebob scenes. The main reason people remember this episode.

I gotta date the marble. :D Now that's funny.

*Fake Cough*....Anyway moving on.

But,of course, Spongebob does what Squidward did and turns the marble into Rubble. He even adds the little fake clay Squidward nose.

This scene is priceless. Squidwards Reaction is priceless. In fact this entire ending has just been really clever, funny, and entertaining.
Refer to my comments above about how this is a Squidward Torture episode done right.

Either way Squidward flips out and gives his job to the janitor. Unknowingly he created an excellent piece of art during his freak out (it makes since if you watch the episode.)
He then give all responsibility of the class to the janitor thus giving him credit for the piece of art Squidward made

In a terribly done episode like Good Neighbors it would be a slap in the face but this episode was done right and so it works

In conclusion this episode was funny, cleverly written, fun and entertaining. What more could I ask. It's a Squidward torture episode done right.

Best Part-Everything after the dump scene.
Worst Part-Squidward making Spongebob cry.

Score-8.5/10

Good Neighbors (Spongebob)-Animated Critic #1

Show-Spongebob Squarepants
Episode Title-Good Neighbors
Airdate-May 20 2005
Season-4
Episode-64b

Animation. I love animation. In fact that's why I created this blog. With animation you can tell some of the most beautiful, well-told, funny, creative, imaginative stories ever told. But like all great mediums there's crap. This is crap.
Before you get all cranky at me. No, I do not hate spongebob. I just hate this episode(and a lot of other ones as well). You see many people say that after the movie the show began to go down hill. And i highly agree with that. Seasons 1-3 as well as the movie were overall great funny and creative. Seasons 4-8 while many people say overall they are awful i still don't completely hate. There's just a lot of bad episodes but still a lot of good ones. Season 9 is definitly an improvement even if there still are a few bad episodes and the second Spongebob movie, even if it wasn't as good as the first one in my opinion, was amazing. And I have high hopes for season 10. Why did the show go downhill. Easy, the creator left after the original movie as he thought the movie should've been the finally. Nick also wanted longer season and episodes to be produced faster so that was also a problem. The team had no supervision. Well they did, just not GOOD supervision. Either way many people consider this one of the worst episodes of the show. Many people also say that this is the point spongebob went downhill. And I agree with that. Why? Well lets find out. Before we begin though many people may be saying i shouldn't be criticizing this episode as spongebob is meant for kids. Well to those guys, thats absolutley no excuse for crap. Kids may enjoy it but that doesn't mean i do. I'm only giving an opinion. If you or your little sibling or your kid likes this episode. Cool, nothing wrong with that. I just personally hate this episode. Deal with it. There are many kids shows that actually try unlike this crap (Steven Universe, Friendship is Magic, Gravity Falls, Original Teens Titans and heck even Spongebob Seasons 1-3 just to name a few.) With that said lets dive into Good Neighbors.

The episode begins with filler. Annoying tedious filler. Spongebob wakes Squidward up (by breaking into his house) and tells him its time for work. To bad for spongebob as its sunday and there's no work on sunday. Squidward promptly kicks Spongebob out. Spongebob decides to get Squidwards paper, to be a good neighbor, and we get an annoying, pointless scene with the newspapers, Spongebob and Patrick.
Speaking of Spongebob and Patrick they are really annoying in this episode. Throughout the entire episode. And despite the episode being called 'Good Neighbors' they dont act anything like good neighbors. Maybe that's the joke but it wasn't funny nor entertaining. We get a scene showing just how much squidward loves his day off. He eats bon-bons and orders a foot massage over the phone. Then Spongebob and Patrick break into his house once again and not only annoy the crap out of Squidward but also out of me. Spongebob and Patrick being annoying is not entertaining or funny. Heck its not even a joke. And that's the entire episode. THE ENTIRE EPISODE IS SPONGEBOB AND PATRICK ANNOYING SQUIDWARD. Listen, something a lot of episodes from Seasons 4-9 get wrong is that torturing Squidward is not funny. True Squidward got tortured a lot during seasons 1-3 but in those seasons it never goes this far so its still enjoyable. Also squidward would usually do something to deserve it like act extremely arrogant or do something jerky so it would be satisfying and funny to see him get hurt.(As cruel as it sounds its true)
All squidward does in this episode is try and enjoy his Sunday. He doesn't act like a jerk or act arrogant or anything.
I know most comedy does involve someone suffering and they dont always deserve it but still they don't take the suffering to far so its still funny. This episode takes it up to the point where its not funny or enjoyable anymore. And to make matters worse its Spongebob and Patrick (The characters we are supposed to like) who are causeing Squidwards annoyance. They are not charming, they are being annoying. Squidward clearly (and understandably) doesn't wanna be around Spongebob and Patrick. He just wants to relax. By the way what are they doing in Squidwards house. The wanna start a club just like in Club Spongebob(The episode with the Magic Conch Shell.) They even have Illuminati Fezes.(It was a joke I dont actually think spongebob is Illuminati)
The club is called Good Neighbors something-or-rather. I don't know ,I didn't care enough. Either way Squidward is now president of a club he didn't even wanna be a part of. Anyway, Spongebob and Patrick continue to annoy Squidward in the most obnoxious way. *SIGH* Refer to my comments above. Then the worse part happens. While Squidward is away(Due to something SPONGEBOB AND PATRICK DID) The foot massage guy comes in, but squidward isnt there so what do Spongebob and Patrick do. They get the foot massage and when squidward returns time is up. What irritates me the most is how Spongebob and Patrick seem to rub it in squidwards face. I know that wasnt the intention but it still ticked me off. This was the one part of the day the squid was looking forward to the most and Spongebob and Patrick took it from him. That isn't funny or entertaining. Thats annoying and irritating. Also Spongebobs excuse for doing this is that they wanted to see if he was really a professional foot massager instead of an assasion. Why would he be an assasion. I know its supposed to show they are stupid but the thing is with stupid characters their stupidity has to be enjoyable to watch(Needless to say this wasn't. Also I feel as if this is extremely out of character for spongebob. He was never the brightest character but he was never this dumb.
Anyway we get to the best part of the episode where squidward finally snaps and tells them off. (Like they deserve). It's just so satisfying seeing them get told off after all the crap they did.
Spongebob and Patrick finally get it through their thick skulls that they are not good neighbors and walk off in shame. Well at least they feel bad for their actions. Still doesn't completely forgive the crap you two put me and squidward through. Then there's the ending oh boy. Calm down Evan we are almost done. Squidward sees an ad for a security system and installs it to keep Spongebob and Patrick away. To bad they are able to get in anyway. At least this time they aren't trying to ruin his Sunday. Instead they wanna give him a cake as an apology(which is quite nice). The security system does nothing to Spongebob and Patrick but hurts Squidward because he's Squidward and the world hates Squidward. :(
Almost over. Almost over, Evan
Anyway the cake lands on the security system and it turns squidward's house into.......A......A Giant Robot.
*FACEPALM* even in Spongebob logic it doesn't make sense. The house turns into a gundam...how...how?
This is stupid.

It even kicks Squidward out but not Spongebob and Patrick. Why. Again its because the world hates Squidward.

The giant Gundam House then goes on a rampage and destrous Bikini Bottom.
You know like actual Security Systems.
Cause whenever someone breaks into your house it turns into A GIANT ROBOT AND DESTROYS YOUR TOWN.
Again this is stupid even for Spongebob.
Spongebob and Patrick find a Switch to turn the Gundam House off and it crushes squidward. *Sigh*
The episode ends with squidward having to do community service because he owned the house(Even though the destruction was all Spongebob's and Patrick's fault) Oh, but don't worry Spongebob and Patrick have to do it to, but thats only because the writers wanna torture squidward more. Man, this dude cannot catch a break.
Man this episode was bad. Spongebob and Patrick were annoying and out of character. They tortured squidward to the point where it was no longer enjoyable and all for what. The fact he wanted to relax on a sunday. BTW the community service squidward was forced to do is on sunday just to annoy squidward and me even more. This wasn't funny or enjoyable it was irritating. You can't just torture squidward because he's squidward. The community has taken to calling episodes like this Squidward Torture Porns. Yeah, not joking. This episode sucked. It did practically everything wrong. If you like this episode fine its just my opinion but i hate this episode with a passion.

Best Part-Squidward telling Spongebob and Patrick off.
Worst Part-The Ending(Gundam House Included. )

Overall Score-3.5/10

So yeah bad episode. But a great way to start the series. Thanks for reading. Hope you enjoyed.
