Gone Flushin (Fairly Odd Parents)-Animated Critic #7

Episode Title-Gone Flushin
Show-Fairly Odd Parents
Air Date-June 22nd 2014
Season 9
Episode 134b

Seasonal rot. Something that happens when a show declines in quality over the years. It happened to Spongebob and Family Guy but also to Fairly Odd Parents. This show was not made to last 10 seasons. Its still going on. Why. Its gotten so bad that they have to constantly keep adding new characters just to keep the show afloat. Poof, Anti-Poof, Sparky and now in the recently announced season 10 a girl who Timmy will be shareing his fairies with apparently. Listen modern Odd Parents is not as bad as Modern Spongebob or Family Guy, but i can atleast understand why networks want those shows to continue. Why Fairly Odd Parents. It was a good show, heck an excellent show. I loved it and still love some of the episodes but who gives a crap about it anymore. I asked around and some people were legeitimatley shocked that this show was still making new episodes. Barely anyone watches the show anymore. Why keep it. Well because it was popular before, heck there was a point where it was getting more viewership than spongebob. Nick is dying and grasping on to its last strings of hope. The odd parents were popular before lets hope they'll be popular again. Thats why they're keeping spongebob, thats why Legend of Korra happened. That's why they have a reboot of Alvin and The Chipmunks currently airing. They are desperatly trying to survive. Here's a tip then-GET GOOD SHOWS AND STOP MAKING CRAP LIKE PIG GOAT BANANA CRICKET OR BREADWINNERS!!!
Thats why you're dying. You pretty much kill yourself by producing these shows. I know no one at nick will here me, but whatever. Lets gets on to why the Fairly Odd Parents should've died years ago.
This is Gone Flushin
Luckily this is only 11 minutes. Thank God.
The episode starts with Timmy and Cosmo as fish hanging upside down in the bowl.

Yeah, even if the episode wasn't titled something that would make you think of a toilet you can still see where this is going. But whatever, lets see how they handle this concept.
Anyway why are they being so stupid, well apparently all the cool fish are doing this. Cosmo says this while showing Timmy a picture of a dead fish.
Ok fine, i can understand Cosmo and Timmy doing this but then Wanda comes and does it as well. Really aren't you supposed to be the smart one.
Timmy's Parents then come in. Oh great. Lets talk about flanderazation. Seems that most shows that go through seasonal rot have some form of flanderazation for the characters. Spongebob, Family Guy. This mostly comes from taken one personality trait from the character that was usually played down ,at least compared to other personality traits, and making that one thing practically their one personality trait. To the point where it gets annoying.
For example taking Mr. Krab's grediness up to 11 to the point he becomes unlikeable. Or do the same with Spongebobs stupidity to the point he becomes annoying to watch.
Thats how most flanderazation happens. Here though they just turned Timmy's parents into some of the worst parents in fiction. As bad as the Griffins. No but they still are pretty bad parents. They sometimes forget their son exsist, or completly ignore him and neglect him, and show barely any sign that they care for Timmy. And this is played for laughs. Thats not funny. Thats depressing. This kinda crap happens in real life and the fact that you would play it for laughs sickens me.
I know that the whole plot of the Fairly Odd Parents is that Timmy's life sucks and thats why his fairies came. But its not because his parents were neglectful. In fact it was quite obvious to see that they cared for Timmy in the older seasons. They just werent always around and thus had to leave Timmy with Vickey, the worlds worst babysitter. Thats why Timmys life sucked. It wasnt because his parents were neglectful. They loved Timmy. Now they can barely remember he exsist. Where did that characterzation suddenly come from. How did they suddenly go from careing about Timmy deeply to not careing at all.
Apparently the only reasom they are checking up on Timmy is because they're doing what all the cool parents are doing. Careing about their childrean. So they're only pretending to care cause they wanna be hip. Great parents let me tell ya. I swear Peter Griffin is probably a more competent parent than these 2 morons. Luckily this episode doesn't really have much of them. I do swear though that one day I will find the episode they are the worst in and review it for all of your guy's pleasure.
Either way immediately afterwards Timmy's dad forgets who Timmy is. Ha ha ha so funny, you so funny.
Ugh, either way they see Timmy's fish (the fairies and Timmy) are dead. Or already they think they're dead as they were being stupid and thought it was a good idea to lay upside down. Seriously haven't you seen any movie or show with fish in it.
Any way they fricking get flushed down the toilet.

Cosmo says that the reason he didn't tell Timmy's father to stop was because apparently not calling for help while you're in peril is the new trend. All the cool people are doing it. This stupid 'all the cool people are doing this' running gag is not funny. It's dumb. This is the 3rd time this gag's popped  up and we're not only 5 minutes into this episode. Running gags shouldn't be respected this much. It especially irritates me as the gag wasn't funny to begin with.
Also this happens.
How is it that Cosmo and Timmy are going one direction but Wanda's going the other way. Especially since it was shown earlier (see the previous picture)
Also how is Wanda going against the current.
Whatever , not important.
They end up in the sewers because where else would a toilet lead.
Oh and we get a joke where Timmy's dad flushes his lawn mower because it died
OK...........uh, I don't know what to say.
Back to Timmy

Timmy ask to be posted out but because there needs to be a plot Wanda Cosmo and Poof have lost their wands. Of course. Because every time Timmy wants to fix something the wands end up somehow lost.
Either way they begin to look for the wands. They come into a contact with a boa constrictor.
It begins to choke Cosmo but luckily cat man saves the day. Yeah, remember cat man .
Uh....cat man.
Actually cat man is now rat man.
An obvious parody of a superhero. That super hero being Spider-Man.
I'm just joking it's batman.
Either way the reason he's here is because he to was flushed down the toilet. No joke.
He took a nap in a retirement home and well......
I will admit that this scene did get a laugh out of me. Mostly because of how ludicrous it was. Kind of like the elephant on a bicycle cut away gag from Peter Problems.
Anyway cat man I mean ugh you know what he's always been cat man to me so to avoid confusion...
Cat Man rescues Cosmo.
Unfortunately......
Timmy tells the snake who use to be his pet to spit Cat Man out. And no the pet thing actually didn't just come out of no where it was actually foreshadowed earlier.
Pretty clever.
Hey, I gotta give credit where credit is due.
After that Timmy and the fairies continue to chase after the wand.
Oh yeah and we get another dumb running gag about Cosmo wanting to be a super hero. It's OK. Not really bad but not really laugh out loud funny.
They split up into two groups.
Poof and Wanda in one and Cosmo and Timmy in another.
Yes let's just yet the 2 complete idiots who thought it was a good idea to hang upside down in a fish bowl be loose on there own.
Actually surprisingly nothing goes wrong for them.
We see Wanda and Poof chasing some of the wands. They hit up against the lawn mower from earlier.  Wanda assures Poof that it won't be coming back to life.
It does.
How, well an electric eel touches it.
Cause you know, that's how that works.
I'm sorry I know this is a cartoon but this is just completely outside my suspension of disbelief.
How did the eel even get in the toilet.
Well that's explained by actually a pretty funny scene.
I won't spoil what happens as I don't like to spoil good jokes.
After that we see Sparkey, Timmy's magical dog. Yeah, he has one of those now. And people absoulutley hate him. I've only seen his introduction episode when it first aired so I have very vague memories of it. Other than that episode the only other one I've seen with him in it is this one. So I don't have a judgement on him as to be honest he doesn't do a single thing in this episode. He's absolutely useless. I mean it. He does nothing at all. You could remove him and this episode would be the exact same.
I mean it. When re watching this episode and saw Sparkey and was like "oh yeah I forgot he was in this episode"
I guess considering what I heard about Sparkey I should be thankful he doesn't do much, but why did he have to be forced into the episode. Here's a tip: you don't have to have all your main character s be in an episode. If they are pointless to the plot don't include them. Do you think we'll forget about him? I don't think that's gonna happen.
He's only here for a stupid gag that does nothing but lengthen the episode.
Timmy's dad sees Sparkey sleeping and thinks he's dead. He then proceeds to flush him. OK I can understand flushing the fish, but do you know what sleep is. I mean you didn't check to see if he was sleeping. This is dumb. And I've noticed that a lot of the jokes involve just flushing things down the toilet. It only worked once. The moment with the eel was funny but not because a eel was getting flushed down a toilet.
Also why would you flush a dog.
Anyway Sparkey knocks the wand out of Timmy's hand when he lands on Timmy.
That's all Sparky does. That is all. You could've had anything else push the wand out of Timmy's hand. I'm sure it couldn't of been anymore convoluted than having the dog get flushed down the toilet.
Well hey Sparkey doesn't need a wand to do magic. Let's see what convoluted explanation they give as to why he can't poof them back. Apparently his magic tail doesn't work when it's wet.
...........
REALLY. HOW DOES THAT WORK. THIS IS JUST CONVOLUTED. CONVOLUTED AND DUMB. TALK ABOUT A PLOT POINT BEING PULLED OUR OF YOUR BUTTOCKS. HOW..........HOW DOES THAT.......HOW DOES WATER STOP MAGIC.
Calm down Evan calm down.
Believe it or not the episode goes down hill from here.
Anyway they chase the wand outside the sewer and reunite with Poof and Wanda.
The only option left is to get Cosmo's wand (why don't the wands stop working when they're wet.)
The wand unfortunately is in the possession of a sleeping squid.
They try to sneak towards the squid without waking it. Cosmo then proceeds to ......put hot sauce on one of the tentacles.
He says he wants kalimari then .....smothers the tentacle in hot sauce..............
You......you IDIOT.
REALLY, ARE YOU THAT DUMB. I KNOW ITS A JOKE BUT ITS NOT FUNNY. WHEN MAKING A STUPID CHARACTER THE CHARACTER'S STUPIDITY NEED TO BE CHARMING, FUNNY, OR ENTERTAINING. COSMO USE TO BE ONE OF THE SHINING EXAMPLES OF THIS ALONG WITH PATRICK FROM SPONGEBOB. Ugh.
Cosmo wouldn't do anything this dumb.
The squid wakes up and Cosmo's stupidity puts everyone in danger.
Luckily Cat Man is back and he has tamed cuddles the snake.
They defeat the squid together.
Cosmo gets his wand back and they poof back to the house.
Timmy's mom comes in and tells him his fish are fine. And then proceeds to place 2 squids in the fish tank to make it look like the fish are fine. Even though they look nothing like the fish and Timmy's mom didn't notice that the real fish were fine and already in Timmy's bowl.
They begin to attack Cosmo and Wanda but Poof shows up and beats the crap out of them.
We end with a joke of Timmy's dad flushing Dinkleberg down the toilet. It actually works. The joke is how Dinkleberg just goes with it as he's just that nice not that he's being flushed down the toilet. It got a laugh out of me.

Thank god. It wasn't obnoxious but it was still bad. The running gags are bad, and the jokes are dumb. They mostly revolve around things getting flushed down the toilet but even the ones that aren't about that are still dumb. I get the feeling it was trying way to hard. With all the running gags and all I got that feeling. If there's one thing I can say there are bits of classic Odd Parents charm but only bits. Most of it is still dumb as crap.
Best Part-The Cat Man getting flushed joke.
Worst Part-Everything from Sparkey's appearance to the 2nd apperence of Cat Man.
Overall Score-4.5/10

God dang it Nickelodeon. What happened.
If I may.
Kevin?
You seem surprised to see me.
Well mostly cause you only seen to appear on my Quick Thoughts blog post.
Well maybe it's  because I only have things to say during your Quick Thoughts. If I may why do you care so much about the quality of Nickelodeon.
Well Nick was a major part of my childhood. Not just mine but others as well. Spongebob, Danny Phantom, Chalk Zone, Avatar. Sure they had the occasional dud show Bukit for the most part they'he shows still hold up. They had interesting characters , charming stories, now all that's gone. They'he trying to be relevant. Trying so hard yet to do so they are making crap that only panders to children with no substance. Children deserve better. Old Nick knew this. They pushed the boundaries of what a Kid Show could do. With shows like Ren and Stumpy, Hey Arnold and others. They revolutionized animation made for kids . Heck not just animation, entertainment for kids in general. I guess it just disappointes me that such a great channel that used to push the boundaries are now starting to stay within the boundaries producing crap that doesn't respect the audiences intellect. That only panders to them. As I said kids deserve better.
I see, beautifully spoken. Hope is not lost though. There is a show out there currently on Nick that does respect it's audiences intelligence. That doesn't just pander to them.
What's it called.
Harvey Beaks
Sound's interesting. I'll give it a shot, but first there's something else I gotta do. A little something called Toon-O-Ween.
After that though I guess I'll be covering Harvey Beaks.
Well see you guy's later. Gotta go watch me some Friendship is Magic.

Next Animated Critic-A Harvey Beaks Episode.
Next Toon-O-Ween-Luna Eclipsed (My Little Pony)

Other Future Episodes
The Sum of His Parts (Teen Titans)
Driven to Tears (Spongebob)
Every Man's Dream (The Simpsons)

And yes, I'm back baby.

Quick Thoughts #7-Too Far (Steven Universe)

Well I'm sad. Seems Steven Universe is on hiatus until 2016. Curses.
But since there is one episode I haven't covered yet from before the hiatus I might as well talk about it instead of waiting to do that recap thing I said I would. (I'll probably cover the first episode of Steven Universe that airs after this hiatus seperately and then do the 5 episode recap thing I talked about)
With that said this is Too Far. I really was not a big fan of Back at the Barn (It's actually Back TO the Barn. I screwed up. My bad) so I really hope this episode makes up for the last one.
And hopefully Peridot doesn't come off as much as a douchebag as she did last episode. I really wanna see more development in the relationship between her and Steven.
To be honest I didn't read anything about this episode before going in. Usually I read a plot summary online but I didn't this time. All I heard was that it was gonna take place at the barn. Whatever though let's get into this. This is Too Far.

Plot Summary-The episode starts at the barn with Pearl getting the drill machine blueprints finished up. Once it's done Peridot comes and checks it. They decide to build it.
After that Peridot makes a comment about fusion that gets Garnet mad. (Though she doesn't show it) and ends up tied to a fence post like with a leash. Just like a dog. It's actually pretty funny. I'll talk about the comedy though later on. Peridot asks Steven for a screwdriver however she calls it a "leverage optimizer." Amythest finds this funny so she aske her what she calls other objects.
Peridot calls her nose a scent sponge, her eyes are vision spheres and her legs are gravity connectors.
Pretty much it's this trope in full effect.
Amethyst keeps cracking up and peridot seems to like the attention. Eventually they need a drill for the robot so Peridot says she'll go to the kindergarten to get a drill of of one of the machine there.
However she needs chaperones as the gems don't trust her to go alone.
So Steven and Amythyst come along. There Peridot begins to say more things Amythyst finds funny, but this time she's doing it purposely for the attention. She then tells Amethyst that she should be the leader of the crystal gems as she's the only real gem. Garnet's a fusion and Pearls are made to be servents. Amethyst is the only real gem at least in Peridot's eyes. She then brings up the formation of Amethyst. How she was born in the kindergarten, and how she's probably defective considering how short she is. The thing is Peridot is still trying to joke as she's saying this. Obviously this ticks Amethyst off. You could say Peridot went...........Too Far.
See what I did there......ah......ah.......no......ok.
And there's our plot.
Now for the Good, the bad and the MEh.

Good-The comedy in this episode is actually very funny. I laughed multiple time. The jokes about
Peridot's lack of understanding about the earth are very well handled.
Speaking of Peridot I love her in this episode. She actually develops in this episode. Sure she's still a douchebag and I can see why they are doing that. To show she's still not completely good and to show how much a terrible place homeworld is. However they want us to start rooting for peridot as a good guy. That doesn't work when she's acting like a racist douche. In Back to The Barn I didn't feel Peridot learned her lesson. And I was right as in this episode she makes a comment about how Pearl isn't an actual gem. However in this episode we see her trying to make it up to Amethyst after she hurt her. I feel like she's actually developing from the villian to the good guy. Which is great. She also starts to take notice of how complex the world is. Which I love. Peridot also starts to feel more like a complex character. Even though she hates the crystal clods, I mean gems she still likes the attention she's getting from Amethyst. Probably because in her time with the homeworld she didn't get very much attention and in a way probably felt lonely. I also love Peridot developing bonds with the crystal gems. In this episode we see the start of a bond between Amethyst and her. It works really well. You do start to understand why Peridot is taking so kindly to Amethyst. She's giving her attention which speaking of which attention from others is something all humans strive for. In that way I can really relate to Peridot. To be honest this is more of a character driven episode. There's not much else I can talk about besides the characters. Steven and Amethyst are amazing as usual and Peridot starts developing into a more complex and interesting character.
And to be honest I really can't ask for much else.

Meh/bad-Nothing. There really isn't anything to bring up that I disliked completely or thought was just meh. However as I said before just because there's nothing meh or bad about an episode doesn't mean it gets a perfect 10. Yeah I know I rank things weirdly but hey.

Overall-9.5/10
For outstanding character development and some truly outstanding moments that show exactly why I love this show. This episode has so many layers to it.
Like an ogre or an onion.
I also got a bring up that it kinda touches on the topic of how far is to far for a joke. It doesn't do it much but it's there nonetheless. I also really like that.
It's a great episode. I still prefer Nightmare hospital but this was still an enjoyable episode.
With that said see you guys in 2016 for the new Steven Universe episode. I'm sure I'like probably do another Quick Thoughts on another show before then though.
Also I should be getting my new phone soon so expect the Gone Flushin review to be up within a week maybe 2 (no promises though cause apparently I can never keep them whenever I make one)
Welp, see you guys later.
Peace.
